Soroush Karimi

Seven months after his disappearance, the body of Soroush Karami had been mistakenly buried under the name of Amirali Heidari. The body of Soroush Karami, an 18-year-old Kurdish youth from Sonqor and Koliyaei and one of the victims of the nationwide protests in Jan 2026, was identified after nearly seven months through DNA testing. According to information received by Rojman, his body was mistakenly handed over to the family of Amirali Heidari Jafar-Abadi, another victim of the protests, during the handover of bodies and was buried under his name. Based on received information, Soroush Karami was shot directly by government forces on Thursday, December 29, 2025, during popular protests in Kermanshah. Citizens transported him by private vehicle to Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah, but he succumbed to his injuries. At the same time, the family of Amirali Heidari Jafar-Abadi, a 17-year-old teenager from Kermanshah who was also killed on the same day by direct fire from government forces, was searching for their son's body. During the handover of bodies, Soroush Karami's body was mistakenly given to Amirali's family, who, unaware of the error, buried the body in Sarableh village. After nearly seven months of continuous follow-up by Soroush Karami's family and relatives, last night, with the presence of the Karami and Heidari families, a representative of the prosecutor's office, and forensic experts, the grave was exhumed, and DNA testing was conducted. The results of this test showed that the body buried under the name of Amirali Heidari actually belonged to Soroush Karami. Concurrently, it was revealed that Amirali Heidari's actual body had been buried in an unmarked grave throughout this period. In recent months, due to the lack of information regarding Soroush Karami's fate, reports had been published concerning his arrest, transfer to the security ward of Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah, indictment on charges of 'enmity against God' (moharebeh), and the potential issuance or execution of his death sentence. However, new information and reports published by human rights sources indicate that these reports were incorrect, and Soroush Karami died on December 29 due to direct gunfire and was never held in Dizelabad Prison.
